WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

"Lord, help me to build a strong foundation on your guiding principles established in your Word. Teach me your ways and grant me wisdom from the Holy Spirit. Let me have eyes to see and ears to hear. Give me the discernment to know when I have strayed and grant me your grace and mercy as I endeavor to build the life you’ve called me to live in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen."

DAY
01

Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.

Proverbs 3:7

REFLECTION:

We have to be careful not to build our foundation on ourselves–on our own perception of what is good. That’s not a real foundation, you’re just going wherever your desires take you. Sort of like living in an RV with no real permanent home. It’s all about living YOUR best life on your terms and following your own truth instead of God’s truth. This is not a buildable foundation.

RESPONSE:

In what areas of your life have you been building on your own wisdom instead of trusting God’s guidance?

DAY
02

Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him…The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

1 John 2:15-17

REFLECTION:

Neither can we try to build our foundation in whatever space the culture determines is good. This can be likened to building a VRBO style life where everything is based on fleeting trends. We are not supposed to esteem and reward what the world defines as good. It is the Word of God by which Truth is founded, anything else is built on shaky ground.

RESPONSE:

Have you tried to go a day without social media or listening to the news? What kind of importance do you place on what the world says or values? If you haven’t tried taking a break from it, why not give it a try and replace it with reading God’s truth in scripture and see what changes you notice.

DAY
03

...If the dead are not raised, LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE.

1 Corinthians 15:32

REFLECTION:

Some just live for the moment. At the end of the day they might say there is no ultimate meaning or purpose to anything in this life. They exist in a constant cycle of fleeting pleasures, committed to a worldview of emptiness—what the Bible calls “vanity of vanities.” This lifestyle is like living on a houseboat, drifting aimlessly down a river, going wherever the current leads. Without a solid foundation built on God’s truth, you are just floating around with no real direction or hope.

RESPONSE:

Are there areas in your life where you feel that you are just drifting aimlessly, living for the moment instead of with purpose in Christ?

DAY
04

Jesus said, “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the wind blew and slammed against that house; and it fell–and great was its fall.”

Matthew 7:24-27

REFLECTION:

Building on the foundation of God will not always make you happy. It may be accompanied by a lot of hard work, but it is the one that is true, good, loving, right and forever. Unlike the shifting sands of worldly or selfish pursuits, it will hold firm through every trial.

RESPONSE:

What does it mean that choosing God’s way won’t always make us ‘happy’? How is God’s way a more sure foundation?

DAY
05

By wisdom a house is built, And by understanding it is established...

Proverbs 24:3

REFLECTION:

Everything God calls us to build in our lives begins with a firm foundation. From there, we build the structure—framing it with core values, principles, and the disciplines that shape our relationships. The quality of our life, the culture we cultivate, and the strength of our relationships, all depend on being rooted in a foundation of God's truth.

RESPONSE:

What changes do you need to make in your values, relationships, or habits to ensure that your life is established on God’s truth? What practical step can you take today to allow God to help you build with Him?
