WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

"Lord in Heaven, we come before you with humility and gratitude. We exalt your name on high and we petition you for the wisdom, truth and encouragement that we need each and every day to live the life you have given us. Let us be anchored to your Word, to your Spirit and to the knowledge that we have of your Son, in order to flourish and to love you and others as we’re called. In Jesus name, Amen."

DAY
01

Zerubbabel is the one who laid the foundation of this Temple, and he will complete it…Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel’s hand.

Zechariah 4:9-10 (NLT)

REFLECTION:

In construction (before laser tools) a plumbline would be used to make sure everything was being built straight and perpendicular to the foundation. We need a plumbline (a standard) that puts us square on the foundation and lined up right where God wants us. Our ‘plumbline’ is the life, character, and example of Jesus.

RESPONSE:

What are the character qualities of Jesus, as derived from God’s word, that we are to emulate? In what areas can you ask God to help you grow in these?

DAY
02

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

Psalm 119-105

REFLECTION:

We are supported by the wisdom in the word of God. We are to be anchored in the Word of God and His truth for our lives.

RESPONSE:

What does it mean to be anchored to God’s word? How can you feed your spirit with more of God’s word and what practical steps might you need to take?

DAY
03

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

Romans 8:14

REFLECTION:

The Holy Spirit is the weight or the force that works in conjunction with the Word of God (never contrary to it) and is in line with the character of Jesus. The Holy Spirit will lead, guide, and empower us to do God’s will.

RESPONSE:

What fruit could you expect to follow as you are led by the Spirit of God? What elements of Christ-like character would come to be in your life and relationships?

DAY
04

For God knew His people in advance, and He chose them to become like His Son, so that His Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:29

REFLECTION:

Zerubbabel was a man tied to the roots of Babylon which was a nation in great opposition to God. He had a past and by all indications didn’t seem to have a chance, but God used him as he surrendered to the Lord and His will for him. God wants the same for us today! He is a way-maker and calls us out and into something greater when we make Him our firm foundation.

RESPONSE:

What things is God asking you to surrender at His feet so that you can be free to live the life He’s calling you to live?

DAY
05

...‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ says the LORD of hosts.

Zechariah 4:6 (NASB 1995)

REFLECTION:

Don’t wallow in the feeling of overwhelm–be grounded in the truth of God’s word and what He says about you. It may be small steps forward, but lean in to Him and His strength. God is calling you to build with Him, something good.

RESPONSE:

When you feel overwhelmed, what can you do to remind yourself that this is a journey with God and that He’s given the tools for what it takes to live a life of confidence in Him? What Bible verses can you anchor yourself to?
