WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

"Lord God, thank you so much for the people that you surround me with on a day to day basis. Let me seize every opportunity to show your love, kindness and generosity of spirit to others. Teach me to believe the best and hope for the best. Put a guard over my lips if need be, and let my words bring only edification to others and glory to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen."

DAY
01

Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.

1Peter 4:8-10 (ESV)

REFLECTION:

Hospitality doesn’t mean having the perfect house, food or lots of money or stuff to impress. Hospitality is translated as the ‘love of a stranger’. We are called to invest in the well-being of others.

RESPONSE:

How does being intentional about loving others help prevent divisiveness? How does it help you have a different attitude and then a different interaction with people that you find difficult or awkward?

DAY
02

We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.

1 Thessalonians 5:14-15 (NASB)

REFLECTION:

We are to be patient with everyone. To show hospitality without grumbling or complaining. Sometimes we can have the right action with the wrong motives. God wants us to be an extension of His love to those around us. We are to be generous of heart and spirit. It starts with generous thoughts of others and refusing to think the worst or making assumptions. Assumption is not a fabric you want to build with–It is very combustible. It can be hard to seek the good for all, but practice makes progress and when we miss the mark, we’ll get plenty of opportunities to try and try again. Praise God!

RESPONSE:

Do you have generous thoughts of others or do you tend to assume the worst? How can God’s word help you to choose generosity and kindness?

DAY
03

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Ephesians 4:29 (ESV)

REFLECTION:

This verse is more than just not cussing. Corrupt talk is anything rotten that brings about decay. A decay to your self, your relationships, and your intimacy with God. Some of us just need to pray and ask God to put a guard over our lips. (Psalm 141:3). Gossip is included in this. Gossip causes division when there should be unity amongst us.

RESPONSE:

Have you ever noticed that when grandma or the pastor comes around, people's language typically cleans up real fast? How could cultivating a better awareness of the presence of God help us with the words we speak also?

DAY
04

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and ball the more as you see the Day drawing near.

Hebrews 10:23-25 (ESV)

REFLECTION:

We can place our hope in Christ because He is faithful and as a result of our hope in Him, we have the ability to consider how we should think about ways to encourage others to love and good works.

RESPONSE:

Think about conversations you had over the last few days…were you encouraging others in the Lord to love and pursue doing good? If not, how could you start?

DAY
05

And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6 (NASB)

REFLECTION:

We need to expect God-moments. That the God of the universe loves you and wants to interact with you and help you do the things He’s called you to do. It’s so important to be a part of a godly community so that we can build up and edify each other in our faith.

RESPONSE:

How can you get more plugged in and involved in the community that it pleases God to put you? How can you be a part of the building up of others? Is God leading you to serve? To give? To join a small group? Ask Him to give you confirmation.
