WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

“Lord, thank you for your word that is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Help me to trust in you for the provision of my life, and let me be trusted to steward everything you have given. Give me eyes to see and spiritual wisdom, to be a generous giver. Not my will, by your will be done. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

DAY
01

...Give us this day our daily bread…

-MATTHEW 6:11

REFLECTION:

The Lord's prayer starts with “Our Father.” This reminds us that we need to receive it in the context of relationship and reverence first. We should never have a ‘give me’ mindset.

RESPONSE:

How can reminding ourselves that God is our Father, and He is in control, and knows what is best for us, help to shape our prayer of petitions?

DAY
02

For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality–at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that there may be equality; as it is written, “He who gathered much did not have too much, and he would gathered little had no lack.

-2 CORINTHIANS 8:13-15

REFLECTION:

Secondly, “Give US this day OUR daily bread…” means that it is asked for and received within a community. Giving is God’s idea! Give and it shall be given.

RESPONSE:

Has there been a time when you have decided to give, instead of hanging onto something, and you saw God use you to be a blessing to someone else?

DAY
03

For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink…

-MATTHEW 6:25

REFLECTION:

Our daily bread does not come from how hard we work; it comes from our Father who gives generously. We should not put our trust in ourselves but in God alone.

RESPONSE:

How can you work, save, and be a wise steward all while trusting Him ultimately to provide for your needs? How can we take responsibility but not take cares?

DAY
04

I am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever…

- JOHN 6:51

REFLECTION:

We must get our daily bread before we ask for forgiveness. We must come from a place of ‘forgiven in Christ’ so that we can overflow with forgiveness outwardly. Jesus is the bread of life. He is the word made flesh according to John 1.

RESPONSE:

Have you made Jesus the Lord of your life? Do you believe He died for your sins and that you are now in right standing with God? Read John 3:16

DAY
05

My heart and my flesh may fail me but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

-PSALM 73:26

REFLECTION:

We will mess up. The enemy of our soul tries to get us to live in the past or worry about the future, but God wants us to live in His presence, in the present.

RESPONSE:

What promises of God do you hang on to when you are tempted to live in regret or worry? How can you remind yourself to trust the Lord with them both?
