WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

Lord God, thank You for being interruptible and for allowing me to come boldly to Your throne in my time of need. You, as a good Father, give generously. I want to be more interruptible. Help me adjust my attitude toward those who interrupt me, and open my heart to see where You want to interrupt my life so I can better follow Your plan. Grant me wisdom and insight from the Holy Spirit to make any necessary changes. In Jesus' name, Amen.

DAY
01

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 4:16

REFLECTION:

As we examine the life of Jesus on earth, He models for us what it means to be ‘interruptible.’ We often miss moments, opportunities, insights, and even rest when we refuse to be interrupted.

RESPONSE:

What is your reaction when you are interrupted by someone or something? Are you willing to stop and make yourself available for the betterment of your relationships with others and with God?

DAY
02

By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed by going out to a place which he was to receive for an inheritance; and he went out, not knowing where he was going.

Hebrews 11:8

REFLECTION:

Jesus challenges us to ‘make a break’ from ordinary life to truly know Him. The impact you experience with God is directly related to how much you allow Him to interrupt your life. And sometimes, this means stepping out in faith—even when you don’t know where He’s leading you.

RESPONSE:

Are you willing to be interrupted by God? Can He interrupt your life, your plans, your way of thinking? Reflect on a time when this happened and what the outcome was.

DAY
03

But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’“Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’“Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’

Luke 14:18-20

REFLECTION:

We all have excuses at times. We can be rebellious, selfish, lazy, or simply uninterested in being bothered. But when it comes to God, we must be aware of how we allow these excuses to hinder us.

RESPONSE:

What excuses do you find yourself making when you’re interrupted? How do these excuses affect your relationship with God? What would it take for you to be more open to God’s interruptions in your life?

DAY
04

When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Luke 18:22

REFLECTION:

We are all called to ‘follow Jesus,’ though what that looks like can differ for each of us. Sometimes, God takes us in unexpected directions, and our lives get interrupted. He may ask us to sacrifice something for His glory and our greater good.

RESPONSE:

How has the call to “follow Me” looked in your life so far? Has there been something you’ve had to leave behind to follow Him that was difficult at first, but now, in hindsight, you understand why?

DAY
05

Jesus summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.”

Mark 8:34

REFLECTION:

We need to be willing to interrupt ourselves and create a rupture in order that we would have more of God in us, in our lives and in our journey. Remember:
  1. God desires to be in relationship with us
  2. There is no sphere of life that He doesn’t want to enter (mind, ethics, lifestyle, spirit, body)
  3. He won’t quit. He stands at the door and knocks. He chases us down with His love.

RESPONSE:

In what areas might God be calling you to deny yourself in order to follow Him more closely? How can you be more 'interruptible'?
