WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

“LORD, thank you for showing us your love through Christ. Thank you that nothing can separate us from your love. I pray that you would reveal and make yourself known to me in a way like I have never known and that you would tear down any wrong ideas I may have about you. I love you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

DAY
01

Pray, then, in this way: Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name...

-MATTHEW 6:9

REFLECTION:

Jesus draws us into a conversation (a prayer) with the Father. We need to take to heart the significance of God’s desire for us to be in relationship with Him and to have a biblical understanding of what it means that He is Our Father.

RESPONSE:

What presuppositions might you have as it relates to the idea of Father? How can we surrender these biases and allow the Holy Spirit to give understanding?

DAY
02

And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all the things by the word of His power.

-HEBREWS 1:3

REFLECTION:

We as humans often misunderstand God the Father, but let the scriptures highlight the truth that Jesus is the ‘exact representation’ of the Father. There is only one God and He never changes! ♥

RESPONSE:

How can having a better understanding of God the Father help us tear down any preconceived notions of Him being harsh or having a separate nature than Christ? Does this bring you relief in any way (even if you still have questions)?

DAY
03

Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.

-JOHN 14:10

REFLECTION:

It is comforting to know that everything Jesus spoke and instructed was all given by the Father. This creates a confidence that we can know the heart of God.

RESPONSE:

What is something that Jesus communicated that you now can hear the voice of the Father in, and how does it encourage you in your relationship with the Lord?

DAY
04

...namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their
trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

-2 CORINTHIANS 5:19

REFLECTION:

Jesus has made a way for us to be reconciled to the Father. When we are in Christ and sealed by the Holy Spirit, we can come to the Father without hesitation. His arms are open wide just as the prodigal son’s father’s were.

RESPONSE:

Closing your eyes and envisioning the arms of God open for you with eyes of love and grace...does this evoke a sense of safety and approachability for you?

DAY
05

“...In love He predestined us to adoption as sons (and daughters) through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.”

-READ EPHESIANS 1

REFLECTION:

Emoji’s are a current cultural thing, especially for younger generations. Emojis can support text in a way that helps to convey the emotion behind it and aid in more effective communication. Jesus gives emphasis to the love of the Father and helps us better understand the heart of God.

RESPONSE:

For fun, if you have a smartphone, take a look at all the emojis and try to match up correlating emotions. Also, discuss how Jesus highlights the intentions of the Father to us through the gospels?
