CHILDREN'S PASTOR/DIRECTOR

Position Summary
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Executive Pastor 
Works With: Pastoral Team,Ministry Leaders, Reach Team Members, Parents, and Residents

Summary:
The Children’s Pastor/Director at Crosstowne Church leads our ministry to children (birth through 5th grade), partnering with parents to help kids know and follow Jesus. This role is responsible for creating a safe, fun, and gospel-centered environment where children experience the love of Christ, grow in biblical understanding, and build lasting faith foundations.
The Children’s Pastor/Director recruits, equips, and leads volunteer teams, develops curriculum and programming, and partners with families to disciple the next generation. This person is both a shepherd and strategist—able to nurture children’s faith while leading a vibrant, well-organized ministry.
In addition, this position will play an active role in developing Crosstowne’s Residency Program, investing in emerging ministry leaders and helping shape the future of the church’s next-generation discipleship pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
Vision & Leadership
  • Provide vision, direction, and oversight for all children’s ministry environments (nursery through 5th grade).
  • Lead the ministry in alignment with Crosstowne’s overall mission and discipleship strategy.
  • Partner with parents to equip them as the primary faith influencers in their children’s lives.
  • Build and maintain a safe, joyful, and spiritually engaging environment for children and families.
  • Serve as a visible and relational presence in the church community, modeling love for children and families.
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team and Executive Pastor to help shape and participate in the Crosstowne Residency Program, offering leadership and mentorship to residents serving in family or next generation ministries.

Teaching & Discipleship
  • Select or develop biblically sound, age-appropriate curriculum for all children’s ministry classes and programs.
  • Ensure that teaching reflects the gospel and helps children understand and live out their faith.
  • Train and equip volunteer teachers and small group leaders to effectively communicate God’s Word.
  • Develop creative large group and small group environments that are fun, engaging, and spiritually formative.
  • Provide residents with opportunities to teach, observe, and learn within children’s ministry environments, offering guidance and constructive feedback.

Volunteer Recruitment & Development
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and shepherd a strong volunteer team for all areas of the children’s ministry.
  • Create a culture of teamwork, encouragement, and excellence among volunteers.
  • Provide regular training, appreciation, and feedback to volunteers and leaders.
  • Ensure all volunteers complete Crosstowne’s child protection process (background checks, Darkness to Light training, etc.).
  • Collaborate with the residency leadership team to integrate residents into volunteer development and training efforts.

Operations & Administration
  • Oversee safety and security procedures for all children’s ministry environments.
  • Manage check-in/check-out systems and maintain accurate attendance and family records.
  • Coordinate classroom setup, supplies, and cleanliness.
  • Oversee the children’s ministry budget and steward resources effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and church staff about ministry events, curriculum, and opportunities.
  • Assist in developing clear systems for resident involvement, communication, and accountability within the children’s ministry.

Special Events & Integration
  • Plan and lead children’s ministry events such as VBS, family experiences, and outreach opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other ministry areas for all-church events (e.g., Easter, Christmas, Baptism Sundays).
  • Encourage intergenerational connection by helping kids engage with the larger life of the church.
  • Partner with the Student Pastor and Executive Pastor to provide residents with hands-on ministry experiences during special events, retreats, and outreach initiatives.
Qualifications & Character Requirements
Spiritual & Personal Qualifications
  • A mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ; demonstrates the biblical qualifications of a ministry leader (1 Timothy 3, Titus 1).
  • Passionate about helping children know and love Jesus.
  • Demonstrates integrity, humility, joy, and a servant’s heart.
  • Committed to Crosstowne’s vision, mission, and statement of faith.
  • Leads from a place of spiritual health and authenticity.
  • Committed to investing in the development of future ministry leaders through mentorship and example.

Experience & Education
  • Has experience in children’s or family ministry or equivalent 
  • Experience recruiting, developing, and leading volunteer teams preferred.
  • Demonstrated skill in communication with children, parents, and staff.
  • Experience mentoring interns or emerging leaders preferred.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communicator—able to engage both children and adults.
  • Creative thinker with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Team player who values collaboration and feedback.
  • Competent in basic technology tools (check-in systems, communication platforms, planning software, etc.).
  • Able to train, coach, and inspire others in ministry contexts.
Other Requirements
  • Background check required.
  • Completion or willing to complete Darkness to Light (or equivalent) child protection training.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Able to work flexible hours including Sundays, special events, and occasional evenings.
Accountability & Evaluation
  • Reports directly to the Executive Pastor.
  • Collaborates with the Executive Pastor and Student Pastor in the leadership and development of the Crosstowne Residency Program.
  • Annual performance review with clear goals for ministry effectiveness, leadership development, and resident mentorship.
  • Maintains healthy boundaries, personal rhythms of rest, and spiritual renewal.
