WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

Lord, I want you to be able to break in anytime you want. I don’t want any other thing to take precedence over my being wholly devoted to you and the things you call me to do in this life. Show me where I can make changes to align my thoughts and my actions more closely with your will. I reject and renounce a spirit of lust and pride in my life and I ask you to give me right desires and take away wrong ones. Help me to love others well with the love that you have given me. Thank you Father for giving me your grace, which is all-sufficient. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY
01

Therefore, I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.

Romans 12:1

REFLECTION:

Before we talk about time management and loving thy neighbor, we need to make sure that we are interruptible to God. We are to present our lives fully to God and remember that we are a temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19).

RESPONSE:

Have you ever thought about your surrendered life as a sacrifice and an act of worship to the Lord? Is there any part of your life that God is asking you to interrupt and present to Him?

DAY
02

And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:2

REFLECTION:

If we are not intentional with letting God interrupt our lives and bring us into alignment with His will, then by default we will just blend in with the world's way of thinking and doing things. God wants us to live a life set apart unto Him! His ways are higher than our ways.

RESPONSE:

In what ways do you do things differently than the world does them? In what areas do you think God is wanting to interrupt the way you do things or think?

DAY
03

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.

1 John 2:16

REFLECTION:

Even though we are physically living in the world, we are not to be of the world. When we fail to maintain a proper relationship to the world, we become filled with lust and pride. Lust is an everyone issue and is an objectification and inordinate usage of anyone or anything for personal gain. It is the opposite of selfless love.

RESPONSE:

What are some of the many areas of lust that we could be tempted with? Is there one that stands out for you and what step(s) can you take to align your desires with God’s desires? (Pray and ask God for wisdom).

DAY
04

Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer, contributing to the needs of the saints, practicing hospitality.

Romans 12:10-12

REFLECTION:

The pride of life is the pursuit of independence and self-sufficiency apart from the needs of others or reliance on God. If you are focused on self then you can’t be devoted to anyone else.

RESPONSE:

Are you a safe person that people feel they can come to when they are in need? What is your approachability? How often do you do random acts of kindness?

DAY
05

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep. Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

Romans 12:14-16

REFLECTION:

God, in His wisdom, set up principles in His word that instruct us on how we should live and relate with Him and others. When we do this, it keeps lust and the pride of life in check. If we don’t follow God’s ways, then the lust of the things of this world and the pride of life will be all consuming. God wishes that we would live an abundant life in Him, but it will require that we make the choice to do life His way. His ways are always better in the end.

RESPONSE:

What safeguards can you employ to push back against the lust of the world and pride of life? Where can you be a blessing to someone else this week?
