WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

Lord Jesus, Thank You for stepping into our mess and not turning away. Because of Easter, we know You’re alive and with us—even when life feels like a complete mess at times. Help us trust that you're still working, still healing, and still making things new. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

DAY
01

Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You.

Psalm 139:7–12

REFLECTION:

King David lived a messy life—but he knew that God was in the mess with him. These verses remind us that no matter how far we run, or how deep our darkness feels, God's presence is already there. Light and dark are the same to Him. He’s not surprised by our chaos. He draws closer.

RESPONSE:

Think of a time when you felt really low and you brought your mess before God. How did God bring you peace during that difficult season?

DAY
02

When the sixth hour came, darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour. At the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, “ELOI, ELOI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?” which is translated, “MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?

Mark 15:33

REFLECTION:

Many have wondered the meaning of some of the last words of Jesus. At any rate, God did not forsake Jesus to the cross or the grave. What we are hearing is the weight of the complete mess. Our mess. That cry was our cry–fully felt, fully known and fully carried by Jesus.

RESPONSE:

Have you ever felt forsaken? How might this verse change the way you saw that experience?

DAY
03

…Truly this man was the Son of God!

Mark 15:39

REFLECTION:

God is in it with us. There is the completion of Grace for those in a 'complete mess'. When the fix doesn’t come, the shame is too great, when evil takes a stab, when guilt is consuming, when hope disappears, when light becomes like darkness of depression–He is in it with you.

RESPONSE:

How would your outlook change if you truly believed God was in it with you?

DAY
04

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

Romans 8:28

REFLECTION:

Just like the back of a beautiful tapestry looks messy and tangled, our lives can seem like a chaotic web of threads. But God sees the other side. When we bring our mess to the cross, He begins to weave it into something meaningful. What looks like chaos to us may actually be part of His masterpiece.

RESPONSE:

What tangled threads in your life do you need to bring to God into the middle of?  Can you think of something in your life that was very painful, but that God worked out for your good?

DAY
05

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16

REFLECTION:

Your mess may remain for a while but His grace can abide of course. The veil is torn, heaven can stream to us. God wants to bring beauty and meaning to the threads of our lives. He’s not just a distant Savior—He’s the one who sympathizes, walks beside you, and gives you mercy in your time of need.

RESPONSE:

What does it mean to you that Jesus sympathizes with your weakness? Where do you need God’s grace and mercy right now?
