WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

Lord God,
Thank you for calling me into a relationship with you. Thank you for your grace and my salvation that is secured by the Holy Spirit in Christ Jesus. Help me to have an eternal perspective when it comes to the messes in my life.
I put my complete trust in your finished work on the cross. Help me to remember who I am in Christ when the enemy of my soul seeks to bring confusion. Help me to fix my eyes on you Jesus, and know that you cover me with your perfect grace all the days of my life. I surrender myself to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY
01

For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form, and in Him you have been made complete, and He is the head over all rule and authority…

Colossians 2:9-10

REFLECTION:

In Jesus’ final breath on the cross, He exclaimed, “It is finished.” The veil tore and access to the Father became available to us in the middle of our mess. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus we are reconciled to the Father and made righteous. Our salvation is held by the strength of His grace alone, not the strength of our grip.

RESPONSE:

Have you made Jesus the Lord of your life? How often do you remind yourself of ‘whose’ you are and that you are complete in Him, even in the chaos and even if some of it was caused by your own choices?
Declare today, “I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus and nothing can separate me from His love!”

DAY
02

But God, being rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus…

Ephesians 2:4-6

REFLECTION:

We ARE new creations, but sometimes we forget what that really means. It’s not just about behavior, it’s about having a new purpose and an eternal perspective. When we can’t see beyond our mess, we can look to Jesus who reminds us of who we are in Him. We are chosen, beloved, redeemed and heirs together with Christ! (Read: 1 Peter 2:9, Ephesians 2:10 and Romans 8:16-17.)

RESPONSE:

When you feel stuck in the mess, what can you remind yourself about who you are in Christ that will help change your perspective on your situation? How does knowing that you are a child of God and that He is working all things for your good help you to have hope?

DAY
03

…Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 18:20-21

REFLECTION:

Your words have the power to shape your thoughts towards life or death. God has laid before us a choice and instructs us to choose life, especially with the words we speak. Speaking God’s truth can bring life to any situation, even when it seems like a complete mess.

RESPONSE:

What are your go-to bible verses that help to reorient your thoughts and enable you to speak and think in line with God’s perspective? If you don’t have any, find some! Write them down and speak His truth more often than you rehearse the mess.

DAY
04

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

REFLECTION:

God desires that we would be in a strong community of believers. It is important to have someone in your life that you trust–someone that will speak life when you can’t see clearly through the mess.

RESPONSE:

Who is your person or people? Do you need to reach out to them and be encouraged? Who might you need to also encourage that is going through a tough season? Pray and ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom and guidance.

DAY
05

You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16

REFLECTION:

Even in your mess, when you step out and serve, your light shines–It becomes a testimony to others around you of the love of God. As you put your trust in Him and serve the needs of others, they in turn will be inspired to put their hope in the Lord as well. You can step out and serve knowing God is working on your behalf.

RESPONSE:

Where is God calling you to serve? How can serving the needs of others help you in your own life as you walk through its challenges?
