WEEKLY SERMON REFLECTIONS

Each week, take 5 days to dive deeper into the heart of our Sunday sermons! Through key insights and scripture, this format will allow for further personal reflection and spiritual growth. Keeping this at the dinner table, discuss it with family and/or friends.

PRAYER OF THE WEEK:

My Lord and My God, thank you for meeting me right where I’m at—oftentimes in the tension between faith and doubt. Like Thomas, I long to follow you wholeheartedly, even when I don’t have all the answers. Thank you for being patient with me. Help me to trust You more deeply, not just with my thoughts, but with my whole heart. When I doubt, help me with my unbelief. I surrender to you. I trust you and find my strength in You alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

DAY
01

(Jesus has this conversation with His disciples:) Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you." "If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus  said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him."

John 14:1–7

REFLECTION:

Thomas had “twin” thoughts—on one hand, he was ready to follow Jesus anywhere, even to death (that’s some loyalty!), but at the same time he was asking, “Wait… where exactly are You going?” Thomas seemed to live in that space between deep commitment and honest uncertainty. Sound familiar?

RESPONSE:

Have you ever asked the Lord, “I want to follow You… but how?”
What does Jesus reveal to Thomas—and to us—about what it really means to follow Him?

DAY
02

…And Jesus said to him, “‘If You can?’ All things are possible to him who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, “I do believe; help my unbelief."

Mark 9:20–24

REFLECTION:

We all wrestle with the head–heart connection. We might “know” something about God in our minds, but believing it deeply and trusting Him with it is often a different story. The good news? We can, and should, ask Jesus for help with that.

RESPONSE:

Have you ever believed something about God in your head, but doubted it could really be true for you?
How does it feel to know that it’s okay to bring your doubts to God—and that He wants to meet you there?

DAY
03

But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples were saying to him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see in His hands the imprint of the nails, and put my finger into the place of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."

John 20:24-25

REFLECTION:

Thomas was called Didymus, which means “Twin” in Greek. Out of all the disciples, he might be the one we “twin” with the most. Thomas represents all of us at one time or another—when we’re skeptical, when we long for proof, or when we hesitate to believe. And God is patient. He invites us into a faith that’s both reasonable and relational.

RESPONSE:

Have you ever gone through a season when your faith felt shaky?
What if your doubts aren’t something to hide—but something God can use to deepen your trust in Him?

DAY
04

After eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors having been shut, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then He said to Thomas, “Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.

John 20:26-27

REFLECTION:

When Jesus entered the room, the first thing He said was, “Peace be with you.” He created a safe space for Thomas—not one of guilt or shame. He met Thomas right where he was and strengthened his faith with His presence. That’s the heart of Jesus.

RESPONSE:

If peace and strength are found in the presence of Jesus, how does that encourage you to come boldly before Him—asking for help and courage when believing feels hard?

DAY
05

Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!” John 20.28
Jesus said to him, “Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.” Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.

John 20:28-31

REFLECTION:

Jesus understands that as long as we live in this physical world, our faith in an unseen God will be challenged. That’s why He gave us His Word and His Spirit—so we can know Him, not just intellectually, but intimately. When Thomas moved from seeing to believing, from head knowledge to heart surrender, something shifted. God was no longer just the Lord—He became "my Lord and my God". His twin thoughts—doubt and belief—were replaced with full surrender to Jesus’ lordship.

RESPONSE:

Do you see yourself in the story of Thomas?
If so, what step is Jesus inviting you to take—whether it’s praying, “Help my unbelief,” or declaring, “You are my Lord and my God”?
