What Really Defines You? Your Identity & Purpose
In this message from the Rooted series, we explore what truly gives us distinction and identity. We often define ourselves by our accomplishments, careers, possessions, relationships, political beliefs, past mistakes, or the opinions of others—but these sources of identity are temporary and ultimately cannot give us lasting meaning. Instead, Scripture reveals that our greatest distinction comes from being known, sought, found, and called by God. Through Psalm 8, the story of Moses, and Jesus’ calling of Philip in John 1, this message challenges us to move beyond simply being created in God’s image and embrace the deeper identity of becoming a child of God through Jesus Christ. No matter what has happened in your past, your failures, losses, age, or circumstances do not have to define you. In Christ, you have a lasting identity, belonging, purpose, and hope. This message invites us to ask: What distinction are you living for, and what column do you want to be in? The emphasis on grounding identity in God rather than achievements or failures also echoes broader Christian teaching that our identity is most secure when rooted in being children of God.
